Make no mistake - we're all for good people getting paid to play lax, but damn, did the MLL draft hit Marin Lacrosse Club hard. The San Francisco Dragons drafted three of our players - Jimmy Mormile, Jim Moss, and Taylor Simmers.
Then the LA Riptide snatched about half of our team, conscripting Vern Briggs, Matt Ogelsby, Lorne Smith, Jason Buttles, Matt Vallone, Vinnie Dello-Iacono, Sean Donnelly, Matt Bontaites, Joe Rosenbaum and Luke Gilbert.

Of course, we wish all our guys the best in the three weeks of training camp tryouts for the Dragons and Riptide. Nothing would make us prouder than to have everyone make the jump from the best club team on the west coast to the pro level. But if the MLL wants to give a handful of these studs back, we won't complain.
Here's a top-notch piece of journalism blowing the lid off a phenomenon we all know and love: the Balti, a.k.a. lax mullet, a.k.a. salad, a.k.a. lettuce, which can be seen sticking out from helmets everywhere but calls Baltimore home.

And hey - hats off to Matt Bontaites as Marin's lone keeper of the flame. Even though he's not from the 410, he represents in shaggy glory. Here's a quote from the story that could almost be about Darth himself:
It's all about the thick hair you can run your hands through, cause all the ladies will be like: "Oh Alan Dimitrios, please show me your ZORBA! and then we shall dance into the night."
UPDATE: This just in - Joe Rosenbaum, upset by seeing a chowderhead getting props for mulletude, has lobbied for inclusion on the team's official Baltimullet squadron. Thanks to this great archival score by M. Bontaites, "Joey Laxenmullet" is in:

Marin beat the O. Club for the third time in a week on April 15, playing on the excellent turf field at a remote location: California High School in San Ramon.
The recap from Kurt Graham, who is doing a fine job of keeping the trains running on time this season, (with guidance from the Godfather, Matt Field).
Once again we proved to be a fourth quarter team. Everyone's hard work in the off season has paid off. Jimmy Mormile got a couple of goals and then got his bell rung. It took about a half hour after the hit for Jimmy to realize that it was, in fact, his birthday. Dave Grose came up big with some timely shots to put the game out of the reach of OC. Thank you to the defense for once again keeping us in the game while the offense was working out the kinks.
Marin Lacrosse Club re-asserted its regional dominance, taking home the 2006 Western States tournament trophy. Marin defeated cross-town San Francisco rivals the Olympic Club twice on the way to the finals. In the championship game, Marin backed up its 2005 California state championship win by taking down SoCal's Adrenaline Lacrosse Club.

From Marin LC middie Jim Moss:
I am holding a charity Golf tournament for Lacrosse for LIFE. The date is Tuesday May 16th at the Presidio Golf Course. Fee is $225 per including lunch, golf, cart, and dinner. I have Gary Gait coming in to play as well as Kyle Harrison and some others. If you know any other lax guys that might come to town, the more the merrier!
Lacrosse for LIFE is a San Francisco charity that provides a lacrosse program to inner city youth. I know a good deal of you guys were “silver spooners” but some of us were blue collar hood rats (Philly guys that likely means you) and people gave us a leg up and got us into the sport.
